Lagos Speaker crisis: A threat to democracy and indigenous interests, by Tajudeen Olanrewaju

The ongoing controversy over the legitimate Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has taken a troubling turn, revealing a display of tyranny and political maneuvering at Alausa.
The Nigerian Police have failed to uphold impartiality in this matter, responding selectively to calls and seemingly favoring one side.
The sudden restoration of security details to Speaker Mudashiru Obasa—without a court order—while those of Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda were withdrawn, raises serious concerns. This unprecedented action not only undermines democratic principles but also disrupts progress, particularly as Meranda would have been the first female Speaker in Lagos State’s history.
If these developments are accurate, they could set off unpredictable consequences. The Renaissance Patriots Foundation stands ready to defend the interests of Lagos indigenes and reshape the state’s political landscape.
Obasa’s insistence on holding onto power appears to be a deliberate attempt to derail democratic progress, potentially leading to the impeachment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and altering Lagos’ political balance in favor of non-indigenous dominance.
If decorum is abandoned, Sanwo-Olu may become a casualty in this power struggle. However, Ibile Eko indigenes will not stand idly by; they will resist and push back against any attempt to undermine their political heritage.
