Kwara lawmakers pass N730.65bn revised 2026 budget

The Kwara State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Revised/Supplementary Appropriation Bill of N730,654,764,929.90, representing an 11% increase over the approved budget of N656,595,559,298.49.
The bill, which was first presented to the assembly on September 1, 2026, was passed on Thursday after the lawmakers considered and adopted the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
The process began with a motion moved by the Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Arinola Fatimah Lawal, representing Ilorin East Constituency, and seconded by Mohammed Kareem Musa, representing Patigi Constituency. The bill subsequently passed its first and second readings.
Leading the debate, Magaji Oba Abdulkadir, representing Ilorin Central Constituency, supported the bill and commended Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what he described as his administration’s commitment to the development and well-being of residents.
Abdulkadir said the revised estimates showed increased attention to areas that directly affect the lives and livelihoods of residents, including social investment, youth empowerment, energy, pensions, agriculture, roads, housing and urban development.
Other lawmakers who contributed to the debate included Lawal; Musa; Owolabi Olatunde Rasak, representing Share/Oke-Ode Constituency; Babatunde Ayi Olatundun, representing Ilorin North West Constituency; and Ogunniyi David Sheun, representing Ojomu/Balogun Constituency.
Following the second reading, the bill was referred to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further legislative consideration. The committee later presented its report, which was considered and adopted at the Committee of Supply.
After the consideration of the committee’s report, the bill was read for the third time and passed into law. The clerk of the House of Assembly was subsequently directed to produce clean copies of the bill for the governor’s assent.
