Kwara police intercept suspected kidnapper attempting to withdraw ransom from POS

The Kwara State Police Command says it has arrested a suspect allegedly linked to a kidnapping syndicate operating around the Obudu/Woru axis of Ilorin East Local Government Area.
The breakthrough followed intelligence-led operations launched after three people were abducted during an armed attack on Obudu Village on July 28, 2026.
According to a statement issued Wednesday in Ilorin by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, investigators expanded the probe to the communication, logistics and financial channels of the syndicate.
The police said operatives intercepted Muhamodu Sanni at a point-of-sale location while he was allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds linked to the abduction.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly provided information about his alleged role in the ransom collection process and identified two other suspected members of the syndicate as Aminu and Umar.
The command said the information provided by Sanni had strengthened its understanding of the network and generated additional operational leads that were being discreetly pursued.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara, CP Ojo Adekimi, said the command remained committed to disrupting criminal networks and urged residents to provide timely, credible and actionable information.
The police said the operation was part of the proactive policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to degrade criminal networks and deny them freedom of action.
