Kwara Poly journalism students protest forced transfer to new course

Journalism students at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, have raised an alarm over a sudden directive compelling them to abandon their course for Strategic Communication, despite already completing their first semester.
The affected students, who had invested time, money, and effort — purchasing textbooks, attending lectures, taking tests, and writing examinations — described the decision as a grave injustice that threatens their academic future and hard-earned progress.
The issue gained traction after a viral Facebook post by Adekanye Ayomide Elizabeth, one of the students, detailed the ordeal.
“This is NOT fair. This is NOT right,” she wrote, lamenting the emotional, financial, and psychological toll the abrupt switch would impose.
The students have appealed to the Kwara Polytechnic management, the Ministry of Education, the media, and the general public for urgent intervention, insisting they deserve the right to complete the journalism programme they started.
