Kwara SUBEB to recruit 1,611 staff for public basic schools

By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin

The Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (Kwara SUBEB) in Ilorin has announced plans to recruit 1,611 teaching and non-teaching staff across the state’s sixteen local government areas.

This announcement was made by the Board’s Chairman, Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Prof. Adaramaja, the recruitment drive will include 695 holders of a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree, 605 National Certificate in Education (NCE) holders, 200 security guards, and 111 other non-teaching staff. These positions have been approved to fill vacancies in the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board.

Prof. Adaramaja explained that the recruitment exercise is based on a recent needs assessment conducted across all 16 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs). The process follows the approval of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to address the gaps created by retirements, deaths, or transfers of staff to other states.

The statement outlined that the recruitment will follow a community-based approach, focusing on hiring individuals from local communities or nearby villages where their services are most needed, without compromising on competence and qualifications. “The recruitment will take place at the local government level or in the nearest communities where the need for educational services is greatest,” the statement added.

Additionally, successful candidates will be required to sign a bond committing them to remain in their new positions for a minimum of five years, to address the issue of teachers frequently leaving rural areas.

The Board Chairman highlighted that this recruitment exercise is part of the Governor’s broader commitment to strengthening the educational sector, particularly at the grassroots level, ensuring that all local government areas are adequately represented. “This recruitment drive is aimed at enhancing the educational sector in Kwara State, ensuring every community within the 16 LGEAs has access to sufficient educational resources and support,” Adaramaja said.

The recruitment process is scheduled to last for three weeks to ensure all positions are filled before the start of the 2024/2025 academic year in September 2024. Further details, including the schedule for the recruitment exercise across the state, will be released soon.
