To maintain a cleaner and healthier environment and prevent the outbreak of epidemics, the Kwara State Government has reinstated the three-hour duration for the monthly sanitation exercise, effective immediately.

This announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Musa Buge, in Ilorin on Tuesday. She noted that this decision aligns with the state’s Environmental Sanitation Law, Section 29 (2) CAP E4 of 2006, which mandates that the sanitation exercise take place from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

The Commissioner emphasized that this measure is necessary to eliminate the indiscriminate dumping of refuse and prevent the spread of diseases. “The sanitation exercise must be taken seriously and conducted in accordance with the laws governing our state,” she stated.

She further urged residents to dedicate more time to cleaning their surroundings, clearing drainages, and cutting bushes around their residences to enhance public health and safety.

Commissioner Buge also appealed to the public to “continue to cooperate with the government and its agencies in their efforts to ensure a clean, safe, and healthier Kwara. A cleaner environment not only benefits residents but also makes the state more attractive to potential investors.”
