The Oyo State Government has condemned the abduction of some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Oyo origin in Imo State, describing the incident as distressing and reprehensible.
The government expressed concern over the incident and sympathised with the affected corps members and their families, saying their thoughts remained with the victims during the difficult period.
The state government’s position was contained in a statement issued in Ibadan on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
According to the statement, the government was in close communication with relevant security agencies, the Imo State Government and the National Youth Service Corps leadership to coordinate an urgent response to the incident.
It said efforts were being intensified to secure the safe release of the abducted corps members and reunite them with their families without harm.
“We are fully committed to securing the safe release of our children and will stop at nothing to ensure that they are reunited with their families without harm,” the statement read.
Oyelade said Governor Seyi Makinde had directed that all necessary resources be deployed to secure the release of the victims, adding that the safety and well-being of Oyo indigenes within and outside the state remained a priority.
The government urged the victims’ families to remain calm while calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the corps members and bring those responsible for the abduction to justice.
