LNSC foils attempted hijack of fuel tanker in Epe

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) has secured a Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) tanker following an alleged armed robbery and attempted hijacking along Atlantic/Ambode Way, Ijako, Epe, at about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday.

The LNSC, in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, said the tanker was travelling from the Dangote Refinery to Ibadan when the driver was allegedly intercepted by two white Sino trucks and an MPV.

According to the agency, the driver said he was dragged into a nearby bush, tied up and dispossessed of his mobile phone while the suspects attempted to take control of the tanker.

The driver reportedly thwarted the attempt by removing and hiding the tanker keys. The suspects searched for the keys and other valuables before leaving the area, the LNSC said.

Acting on a distress call, LNSC personnel responded to the scene and encountered two men who identified themselves as the tanker’s motor boys. The driver, who was initially missing, was later found.

The agency said the tanker was secured and escorted towards the Lagos State Toll Gate at Mojoda, while efforts continued to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the alleged assailants.

LNSC General Manager, Prince Ifalade Oyekan, commended the officers for their swift response and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting the “Greater Lagos” initiative of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

“I commend the officers for their quick response, which is one of the reasons Mr Governor continues to prioritise the empowerment of the Corps for peak performance at all times,” Oyekan said.
