Nollywood’s Ramsey Nouah opens up on Nigerian, Lebanese heritage

Nigerian actor and filmmaker Ramsey Nouah has revealed that his mother is from Ondo State, while his father is Lebanese.

Nouah made the disclosure during a recent interview on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, where he also explained that his upbringing in Lagos influenced his fluency in Yoruba.

“I speak Yoruba so well because I’m a Yoruba boy. I was born and bred in Lagos. My mum is from Ondo, but I’m mixed-race because my father is Lebanese,” the 55-year-old actor said.

Nouah began his acting career in the early 1990s and has since become one of the prominent figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry, earning several nominations and awards.

In 2010, he won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in The Figurine.

He made his directorial debut with Living in Bondage: Breaking Free in 2019 and has since directed several other Nollywood films.

Recently, Nouah said taking films to the cinema was not always a wise financial decision for producers, arguing that many fail to recover their investments despite spending heavily on promotion and advertising.

“About only two percent of people would probably make their capital invested like ROI on cinemas. Even with the promotion and all of that, some people still do not get their capital invested,” he said.
