Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, is set to enter a new era of academic growth, research breakthroughs, and community development as it prepares for its 13th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

The vice-chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh, said at a press briefing at the Muhammadu Buhari Main Library that 8,119 graduands will receive degrees this year, comprising 7,618 first-degree holders and 501 postgraduate recipients. He noted that 82 undergraduates bagged First Class honours, while 75 doctoral degrees will also be conferred.

Professor Jimoh highlighted the successful commencement of academic activities at KWASU’s new campuses in Osi and Ilesha-Baruba, praising Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for ensuring that the university now operates three fully functional campuses. He also thanked traditional rulers and host communities for their support.

The vice-chancellor disclosed that fourth-year medical students have resumed clinical training at the newly upgraded Kwara State University Teaching Hospital. He further revealed that 56 pioneer and second-set law graduates have been called to the Bar, describing both developments as long-awaited milestones.

KWASU has made significant infrastructural progress, including a N1 billion TETFund intervention for its Library Annex and the installation of smart classrooms across all faculties. Other ongoing projects include a newly commissioned 600-bed hostel under a PPP arrangement, the First Lady/TETFund-supported Experience Centre, a central laboratory funded by the CBN, and the Faculty of Law building nearing completion.

On research output, Professor Jimoh celebrated staff who secured over N35 million in NRF grants and two scholars who won international fellowships worth more than $50,000 each, making them the only Nigerians among 22 global recipients.

He also announced that KWASU engineers built a prototype electric vehicle from scratch, which will be showcased during the convocation exhibition. “This is a step beyond converting existing vehicles; every component was assembled by our engineers,” he said.

In addition, 44 undergraduates received N100,000 research grants during the last Undergraduate Research Day, reflecting the university’s growing research culture.
