Lagos APC advocates unity among Chairmanship aspirants ahead May 10 primaries

… mulls consensus arrangement across LGs

The All Progressives Congress (Lagos State Chapter) has called on all the Chairmanship aspirants to be united ahead of the May 10 primaries elections, suggesting consensus candidacy across the 20 local governments and 37 local council areas.

The party leadership gave this suggestion on Wednesday at the Stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja.

Addressing the party stakeholders, the Chairman of the Lagos APC Election Committee, Barr Babatunde Ogala SAN, encouraged the aspirants to work out ways to adopt a consensus candidate among themselves, saying that it will ensure a rancour free primary exercise as well as sustain the existing unity among members of the party.

Ogala said for logistics reasons, the Chairmanship primaries would be held at the Lagos APC secretariat at acme in Ikeja, adding that each aspirant with one agent would be allowed into the premises.

He added that only the accredited delegates, chairmanship aspirants and their agents would be allowed into the primary election venue at the state party secretariat.

Ogala said that due diligence was done during the screening exercise, advising the aspirants not to take the contest as “do or die affair”.

He added ” We have 57 councils but the number of Chairmanship aspirants is over 400 and all of them cannot seat in the office. We need to adopt a system that will ensure a rancour free primary exercise as well as sustain the existing unity among members of the Lagos APC”.

” And I think I have the assurance of the leadership that they will do everything possible to make sure nobody goes home empty-handed at the end of today. So sirs, our leaders, I am appealing to the party chairman. I am appealing to the leaders to make this job easy for all of us. We are open to it. We are here. If the leadership of any local government agrees, we are willing to accept and just do affirmation. It is an appeal. And it is doable. We have done it in the past. I think I can say I was a product of consensus. And many others here at World Offices, whether in the House, were also products of consensus. Including council chairmen, both mine in the past, and even party executives”.

On Councilorship, Ogala explained that their primaries would be conducted at the ward level with ward delegates.
