Lagos commits to full delivery of 68km Green Line rail roject

The Lagos State Government has announced its decision to complete the ambitious 68-kilometer Green Line rail project in one go, departing from the phased approach used in previous rail developments.

Stretching from Marina to the Lekki Free Zone, the Green Line is poised to revolutionize transportation in Lagos by easing traffic congestion, reducing dependence on private vehicles, and boosting mobility across the city.

Providing updates on the initiative, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) revealed the full alignment of the route, while affirming that the project will be delivered as a single, uninterrupted effort.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, confirmed that the state is determined to complete the Green Line in its entirety before it begins commercial operations—unlike the Blue and Red Lines, which were implemented in phases.

LAMATA also highlighted the ongoing Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Resettlement Policy Frameworks to ensure that the project minimizes negative impacts on communities and the environment.

The state government has partnered with China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) to execute the project, formalizing the collaboration through a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Officials believe the Green Line will significantly improve the state’s transportation infrastructure, creating a more livable and sustainable environment for the growing population.

Meanwhile, property owners along the proposed corridor have been urged to regularize their building approval documents, ensuring compliance and preventing disruptions as construction progresses.
