Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has distributed cheques totaling over ₦1.5 billion to 204 residents whose properties were acquired for state development projects, including roads, schools, and other public infrastructure.
Speaking during the cheque presentation ceremony on Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the government’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of property owners and fostering a better Lagos for all.
“This occasion signifies more than compensation; it reflects our unwavering commitment to enhancing Lagos’ socio-economic landscape,” the governor said.
“The lands acquired are pivotal for building a sustainable future, creating vital public infrastructure, and driving economic transformation.”
Sanwo-Olu highlighted ongoing projects such as new hospitals, affordable housing, and expanded transportation networks, which aim to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost productivity. Key initiatives include the Pen Cinema Bridge in Agege, the Oyingbo Ultra-Modern Bus Terminal, the Orile-Badagry Road expansion, and the relocation of the Computer Village to Abule Egba’s ICT Park.
“These projects are transformative, addressing immediate needs while laying the foundation for a thriving, inclusive society,” he said, urging beneficiaries to invest the compensation wisely for lasting benefits.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lands Bureau, Kamar Olowoshago, commended the beneficiaries for their cooperation in enabling critical projects. He noted that these developments aim to modernize Lagos, alleviate congestion, and support commercial activities.
“Your understanding and willingness to contribute have played an essential role in advancing Lagos’ urban renewal and economic growth,” Olowoshago said.
