Lagos State Government will host a three-day cultural extravaganza from November 14 to 16, 2025, across key locations including the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Freedom Park, National Theatre, Badagry Heritage Museum, Lekki Arts and Crafts Market, and Tafawa Balewa Square. The initiative aims to promote cultural heritage and strengthen tourism in the state.
Tagged Lagos Cultural Weekend, the event will highlight Nigeria’s traditions through curated programs blending history, culture, and local artistry. Speaking on the initiative, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, said the event is part of the broader Lagos Cultural Mission.
“We aim to use Lagos Cultural Weekend as a true reflection of Lagos culture, offering tourists and visitors an immersive experience of our rich heritage. The three days will be a cultural baptism and a meaningful introduction to who we are. Prioritising cultural representation also drives economic growth,” Aregbe said.
He emphasized that the initiative goes beyond showcasing culture, highlighting the importance of investing in artisans, creatives, and key stakeholders to foster engagement and sustainable development.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration values collaboration and inclusiveness. We want to work closely with Lagosians—historians, curators, artisans, culinary experts, performers, fashion designers, community leaders, and traditional institutions—to ensure guests leave with an authentic story of Lagos,” he added.
Attendees will enjoy live music, DIY sessions, contemporary art exhibitions, traditional dance showcases, fashion shows, culinary tastings, and craft demonstrations. Symposiums and cultural lectures will also be held for those seeking deeper insights into Lagos’ cultural identity.
The weekend will feature diverse local performance groups representing the state’s ethnic landscape, with a focus on language, literature, and indigenous storytelling, ensuring a vibrant cultural experience for all.
“Lagos Cultural Weekend 2025 reaffirms our commitment to building a thriving creative economy while celebrating Nigerian traditions. Through partnerships, sponsorships, and community engagement, this initiative will set a new benchmark for inclusive cultural programming in Lagos and across Africa,” Aregbe said.
