Lagos endorses 4th edition of 1XCup grassroots football tournament

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), has endorsed the fourth edition of the 1XCup grassroots football competition, reaffirming its commitment to youth development through sports.

Speaking during a visit by officials of the tournament to the commission, the Director-General of the LSSC, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, commended the organisers for their contribution to grassroots football development over the past three years.

Fatodu said the competition had established itself as one of the leading grassroots football platforms in the country, providing opportunities for talented young players to showcase their abilities and gain exposure beyond Nigeria.

According to him, several promising footballers have been discovered through the tournament and have benefited from opportunities for further development and international experience.

He noted that the efforts of the 1XCup management team, including former international Waidi Akanni, Geraldine and other officials, align with the Lagos State Government’s vision of empowering young people through sports.

“The remarkable efforts on grassroots sports development being led by the 1XCup team and their experienced management team members like Mr. Waidi Akanni, Ms. Geraldine and the rest of the team are perfectly in line with the interventions of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to provide formidable empowerment and mentorship for growth for our teeming young population through sports.

“As such, this kind of impactful sporting initiative will continue to receive the endorsement of the state government as well as our unwavering support,” Fatodu said.
