Lagos First Lady inaugurates Remote Healthcare Monitoring System
Lagos State has taken a major step in improving healthcare delivery with the introduction of a Remote Control System for Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Health District I.
The system, aimed at enhancing access to healthcare, was inaugurated by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Rauf Aregbesola Primary Health Centre in Mosan-Okunola LCDA.
Represented by Mrs. Omolola Sanyaolu, wife of the Chairman of Egbe-Idimu LCDA, Dr. Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the new system is designed to bridge gaps in healthcare access, especially in underserved areas. It will enable real-time monitoring of PHCs and support remote consultations between patients and specialists, helping to streamline healthcare services at the primary level.
“This is not just a technological advancement; it is a bold declaration of our commitment to ensuring that no resident is left behind in accessing quality healthcare,” said the First Lady.
She also lauded the Permanent Secretary of Lagos Health District I, Dr. Olufunmilayo Bankole, and her team for their commitment to improving healthcare in the district.
The Remote Control System is expected to improve early diagnosis, facilitate efficient referrals, and reduce pressure on secondary healthcare facilities by addressing minor health issues at the primary level. Dr. Sanwo-Olu described the initiative as part of Lagos’ broader strategy to transform healthcare and reduce mortality rates across the state.
Dr. Olufunmilayo Bankole, the Permanent Secretary of Health District I, highlighted the district’s accomplishments over the past year, including screening over 5,000 residents for non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and cancer. She also noted that 30% of those screened required follow-up care, and the district is actively managing these cases.
In her remarks, Bankole also spoke about the district’s child health initiatives, particularly an immunization intensification program that has successfully identified and immunized 512 children in the Alimosho area, reducing the number of zero-dose and partially immunized children.
The Chairman of Mosan-Okunola LCDA, Princess Olabisi Adebajo, praised the Sanwo-Olu administration for its commitment to healthcare, noting that the new system would significantly improve patient care by facilitating quicker referrals and specialist consultations.
“This system will not only enhance the patient experience but also significantly reduce maternal and child mortality rates in our community,” she said.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye; Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Public Service Office, Mrs. Olasunkami Oyegbola; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Dr. Biodun Onayele; and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Dr. Oluwatoni Adeyemi.
