Lagos gridlock: Sanwo-Olu inspects Independence bridge, apologises for inadequate communication

Following the ordeal experienced by Lagos residence on the Independence Bridge on Wednesday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has visited the area to assess the ongoing repairs on the bridge and Bonny Camp Road.
Speaking on Thursday at the site, Sanwo-Olu stated “ This was a case of we all rushing out yesterday after a long holiday and people needed to get to work, this part of the city is the CBD, the business district. And so because of the inadequate communication, and I will take responsibility because it had started even before then, so you just assume people are aware.”
Sanwo-olu said communication is enforcement and the Lagos State Government will announce alternative plans to use other routes
“ Communication is enforcement, we have to continue to announcing to help people make alternative plans to use other routes.
“I will like to advise our citizens that this type of thing has also happened in another form let’s think out of the box, if you don’t have a business to do In Victoria Island in the next two to three weeks, conduct your business via telephone, zoom meetings and plan ahead.
“Work from home, work remotely, from Marina to Victoria Island is free on the. We are also thinking of an alternative can we do a counter flow but it also needs a lot of excavation, we are going to break a lot things and see if it will be effective.”
Sanwo-olu assured Lagosians that there will be officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to ensure seamless transportation, appealing to citizens not to drive recklessly.
