Lagos partners UK firm, to commission 36 new schools in Ajegunle

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said his administration will soon commission 36 new schools in the Tolu area of Ajegunle as part of efforts to expand access to quality education and expose students in the state to global opportunities.

Sanwo-Olu made the disclosure on Thursday at Lagos House, Marina, while receiving the leadership team of Westerfield College, United Kingdom, signalling a partnership aimed at strengthening educational standards and international exposure for Lagos students.

The governor said the engagement with the UK-based education firm provided an opportunity to discuss the future of education in Lagos and explore areas of collaboration that would benefit learners across the state.

He reiterated that education remains a central pillar of his administration’s THEMES+ agenda, stressing that no child should be denied access to quality learning.

“In a couple of months, we will be commissioning 36 schools in Tolu, Ajegunle. Our goal is to ensure that every child has a desk in a quality classroom,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Reflecting on progress in the education sector, the governor noted that Lagos State had only one state-owned university when his administration assumed office, but now has three, alongside the establishment of a dedicated Ministry of Tertiary Education to give focused attention to higher institutions.

While acknowledging that more work remains, Sanwo-Olu said his government is committed to building a solid educational foundation that will enable the next generation to compete globally.

“There is still a lot of work to do, but we are making sure the ladder is there for the next generation to climb,” he added.
