Lagos PDP decries alleged intimidation of eligible Lagosians at registration centres

…..charges INEC to scale up operations

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state, has decried the alleged harassment and intimidation of eligible Lagosians at the voter registration centres in the state.

PDP in a statement issued on Saturday by the State Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode and made available to WesternPost, said that the alleged harassment had prevented Lagosians from exercising their civic responsibilities.

Amode said: “The Lagos PDP decries the harassment and intimidation of Lagosians by the APC led administration in Lagos State thereby preventing Lagosians from exercising their civic responsibilities.

“Reacting to the reported intimidation of Alaba Market Traders who shut their stalls to ensure they register before the closing date, the Lagos PDP warned that this time, Lagos PDP will not put itself in the defensive as any further attempt to intimidate lagosians from registering for their PVCs will be met with strict resistance.

“The Lagos PDP has commended the Independent national electoral commission for the youthvotecountng initiative and for the Mega Musical Concert aimed at stimulating the interest of youths in registering for their PVC scheduled to hold today at,Saturday 1 Ith June,2022 at the Tafawa Balewa Square.

“The Lagos PDP charged the Commission on the need to take proactive measures in forestalling rising incidences of glitch in the exercise”.

The party commended youths across the state for showing uncommon determination in getting their PVCs, eulogising traders from Alaba International Market who shut the market few days ago to allow them participate in the continuous voter registration exercise.

“The Lagos PDP charges the commission to address the frustration and lackluster performance of some of its officials. It was reported that some of the traders were attacked by politically motivated thugs because of their perceived sympathy for the PDP.

“The Lagos PDP called on INEC to scale up the registration centres by deploying more personnel and equipment in addition to the current ones at the Tarawa Balewa Square so that all Lagosians who are willing to perform their civil obligations before the deadline set for the exercise can freely do so.

“The Lagos PDP also sent a strong warning to the APC sponsored thugs to desist from molestation of Lagosians who are fed up with the misrule of the ruling party,” the party added.
