The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with Eye Culture, has hosted Àṣà Mi: My Culture, My Identity, a cultural immersion programme designed to reconnect children with their heritage and strengthen their sense of identity.

The programme, held at Juicy Lagos, Victoria Island, exposed participants to various aspects of Lagos culture through practical activities such as sewing, crafts, hairstyling, visual arts and tie-and-dye.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, emphasised the importance of involving children in preserving the state’s cultural heritage.

Aregbe said the initiative aligned with the Lagos State Government’s THEMES+ Development Agenda, particularly its focus on Entertainment and Tourism.

He noted that exposing children to their cultural roots would enable them to appreciate their heritage, acquire useful creative skills and become responsible custodians of Lagos’ cultural legacy.

“The best thing for Lagos is to promote its culture and ensure that it is sustained,” Aregbe said, stressing the need to engage and train children to understand the values that define the people of Lagos.

He commended Eye Culture for the partnership and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting youth-focused initiatives that promote cultural awareness, creativity and skills development.

The programme brought together government officials, Eye Culture representatives, partner organisations and young Lagosians, who actively participated in the cultural and skills-based activities.
