Lagos ready for Canadian investors, says Sanwo-Olu at business conference

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared that Lagos is ready to welcome more Canadian investors as the state continues to strengthen investment, business growth and economic ties between Nigeria and Canada.
The governor made the declaration while congratulating the Government and people of Canada on the country’s 159th Confederation Anniversary at the Canada Day Reception and the 6th Canada-Africa Business Conference held on Friday in Lagos.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Sanwo-Olu described Lagos as an ideal destination for Canada-Africa economic engagement, citing its status as Africa’s commercial capital and a leading hub for commerce, innovation and investment.

He noted that Nigeria remained Canada’s second-largest trading partner in Africa, with bilateral merchandise trade exceeding $3 billion in 2025, much of which passes through Lagos as the nation’s commercial gateway.
The governor said Lagos was well-positioned to support Canada’s Africa Strategy through its investment-friendly policies under the THEMES+ Development Agenda, which focuses on infrastructure renewal, economic expansion, improved public services and ease of doing business.
“Lagos is open. Our market is ready. I am personally committed to ensuring that every investor’s experience in Lagos is productive, transparent and rewarding,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He highlighted key infrastructure projects, including the Blue and Red Rail Lines, the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the proposed Green Line Rail Project, industrial development initiatives and electricity sector reforms, describing them as investment opportunities for long-term partners.
Earlier, Canada’s Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Carlous Rojas-Arbulu, said hosting the 6th Canada-Africa Business Conference in Lagos for the first time reflected Canada’s growing commitment to deepening trade, investment and development partnerships across Africa while leveraging Lagos’ position as a leading commercial and innovation hub.
