Lagos set to launch Digital Addressing System July 1

By Adeola Ogunrinde –

The Lagos State Government has announced that it will commence the implementation of its Digital Addressing System on July 1, starting with 23,000 properties in the Ikeja axis.

The initiative, aimed at improving ease of doing business, enhancing access to essential services, and boosting state revenue, will begin under the Lagos Identifier Programme.

Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, Dr. Babatunde Olajide, said the system would transform various sectors including housing, transportation, ride-hailing, security, emergency response, taxation, and urban planning.

He noted that the new technology not only advances Lagos as a smart city but will also deliver real-time benefits to residents and strengthen the government’s responsiveness.

Dr. Olajide added that the rollout in Ikeja Local Government will be led by state agencies working closely with technical partners to handle the production and installation of digital house numbers.

According to the plan, each property will be assigned a unique digital address number, and barcodes will be affixed to buildings for easy identification and access to embedded data.

Technical partner, Mr. Yinka Adesiyan, explained that residents will be able to scan the barcodes to access detailed information about streets and properties, making navigation and service delivery more efficient.
