Lagos steps up 26MW power project for waterworks

…targets reliable water supply

The Lagos State Government has intensified work on a 26-megawatt embedded power project aimed at providing dedicated electricity to the Iju-Akute Waterworks and improving the reliability of water supply across the state.

The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, disclosed this during an inspection of power-generating equipment supplied by Jubaili Bros Nigeria for the Akute Independent Power Project, being developed by Agrigate Utilities Limited.

The first phase of the project is expected to generate 9MW, while subsequent phases will raise the total capacity to 26MW.

Ogunleye said reliable electricity was critical to the sustainability of essential public infrastructure, urging the project partners to adhere to approved specifications, timelines and quality standards.

The commissioner stressed the importance of delivering the project efficiently, noting that dedicated power would strengthen the operations of the waterworks and support the state’s efforts to provide stable water services.

Chief Executive Officer of Agrigate Utilities, Mr. Olufemi Bakare, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to completing the project TV within the agreed timeframe.

Jubaili Bros Nigeria also pledged to provide the required power-generating equipment and technical support to ensure successful delivery of the project.

The state government said the project would provide dedicated electricity to the waterworks, helping to improve the reliability and sustainability of water supply to residents across Lagos.
