LASG announces diversions ahead of Electric Powerboat Racing Championship

By Adeola Ogunrinde –

To facilitate the smooth hosting of the Electric Powerboat Racing Championship E1 Series Event—Africa’s first electric powerboat race—set to take place on the Lagos Inland Waterways of Victoria Island Lagoon from Saturday, October 4, to Sunday, October 5, 2025, the Lagos State Government has announced planned traffic diversions.

In a press statement on Thursday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said there will be a total road closure at the 1st Lekki Junction inward Ozumba Mbadiwe. He advised motorists to use alternative routes to ease traffic congestion.

Motorists from Ajah heading to Lekki are to make a U-turn at the Lekki 1st Junction by the pedestrian bridge to link Yesufu Abiodun, Maroko Police Station, City of David, and Ligali Ayorinde to connect Ajose Adeogun, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and McEwen/Onikan to continue their journeys. Alternatively, motorists from Ajah inward CMS may pass through Abraham Adesanya to link Ogonbo Road, access Okun Ajah Road, connect Coastal Road, and join Ahmadu Bello Way to Independence Bridge and McEwen/Onikan.

For motorists from Lekki and its environs heading to Ikoyi or the Mainland, Osiyemi advised taking Admiralty Way to access Lekki Link Bridge, Alexander Road, Bourdillon Way, Gerrard Road, and Osborne Road. Those going to CMS can connect Yesufu Abiodun, link Oniru Road, access Aboyade Cole Road, and follow Ligali Ayorinde, Eko Hotel Roundabout, and Ahmadu Bello Way.

He further explained that motorists from CMS, Independence Bridge, and Ozumba Mbadiwe inward Lekki-Epe Expressway will enjoy uninterrupted through traffic to Ajah and its environs.

Osiyemi assured motorists that adequate parking has been made available for the event at Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, and the Law School premises in Victoria Island. He urged participants to cooperate with officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who will be strategically deployed along event routes to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The statement also noted that during the two-day road diversion, the Coastal Road will remain open to traffic.

The Commissioner appealed for patience from motorists and residents, stressing that the diversions form part of the traffic management plans for the E1 Boat Race taking place on the waterways of Victoria Island.
