LASPA seeks stronger LG support for parking reform

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has intensified efforts to strengthen stakeholder collaboration aimed at improving parking management across the state.

As part of the initiative, the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Akeem Dauda, to discuss strategies for effective parking regulation and traffic management.

Speaking during the meeting, Adelabu said the visit was designed to sensitise the local government leadership on LASPA’s activities and ongoing efforts to ensure proper parking management across Lagos State.

She also informed the council about the agency’s expansion plans and the proposed On-Street Parking Scheme, which will require motorists to pay for parking in designated areas.

According to her, the On-Street Parking Scheme is expected to commence in 2026 as a pilot project in selected local government areas, including Ikeja Local Government.

Addressing the chairman and management team of the council, Adelabu explained that parking management was originally under the control of local government councils before it was transferred to LASPA by the Conference of the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.

She added that the proposed scheme would provide several benefits, including improved parking management, reduced traffic congestion, and job creation opportunities for residents within the selected pilot areas. Adelabu further stated that local governments and LCDAs stand to benefit significantly from LASPA’s initiatives through effective collaboration and support.

In his response, Dauda commended LASPA for its efforts in improving parking management across Lagos State and pledged the support of Ikeja Local Government for the successful implementation of the initiative. He also stressed the need for increased public sensitisation to educate residents on proper parking practices.
