Late goals earn Liverpool victory over Bournemouth on EPL opening day

By Tosin Omojola –

Liverpool began their title defence on a winning note on Friday night, beating Bournemouth 4-2 at Anfield.

The English Premier League opener witnessed dramatic moments as the holders scored two late goals to seal the victory.

Arne Slot’s men had taken a two-goal lead through a 37th-minute strike by Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo’s 49th-minute effort.

Bournemouth responded with Antoine Semenyo reducing the deficit in the 64th minute before levelling the game in the 76th.

A dramatic finish was, however, in store as the Reds struck late to secure all three points.

Federico Chiesa scored in the 88th minute before Mohamed Salah wrapped up the game with Liverpool’s fourth, four minutes into added time.
