Late-night fire hits foam factory in Oyo town

A foam manufacturing factory in Oyo town, Oyo State, was partially destroyed by fire on Tuesday night, resulting in the loss of equipment and property.

The affected facility, identified as Global Crystal Foam Nigeria Limited, is located in the Oko-Oba area along Akinmorin Road.

The fire, which broke out around 10:39 p.m., engulfed the warehouse section of the factory. While the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed, officials confirmed that valuable property was affected.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident and said firefighters were immediately deployed following a distress call.

“The fire was reported at exactly 22:39hrs on Tuesday, 8th July 2025. Our officers, led by CFM Yisau Lateef, were swiftly deployed to the location,” Akinwande said in a statement on Wednesday.

He added that the team arrived to find the warehouse already engulfed in flames. Firefighting chemicals were promptly applied to contain and extinguish the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the factory.

“Although the foam warehouse was affected, properties worth millions of naira were saved,” Akinwande noted.

The fire was reportedly caused by spontaneous combustion from accumulated mattresses within the warehouse. No casualties were reported.
