Law School explains how 23-year-old student died in Lagos

A 23-year-old Nigerian Law School student, Faith Alayande, died after falling from the rooftop of a hostel at the school’s Lagos campus, the institution has said.

The incident occurred at about 4am on Friday, August 7, 2026, while Alayande was undergoing an externship programme at the Lagos campus.

According to the management, the student, who was originally enrolled at the school’s Enugu campus, sustained injuries in the fall and later succumbed to them.

In a statement, Aderonke Osho, secretary to the council and director of administration, said the school had commenced an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Nigerian Law School is deeply saddened by this tragic development. Management is working closely with the appropriate authorities and the family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement said.

The management expressed condolences to Alayande’s family, colleagues and others affected by the incident, while appealing to the public and media to respect the family’s request for privacy.

The Lagos State Police Command also confirmed the incident, saying the hostel matron reported that Alayande had been found unresponsive on the premises.

Police operatives visited the scene and evacuated her body to a morgue, while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding her death.
