Fadahunsi hits back at Peter Obi, says comments were misinterpreted

Senator Francis Fadahunsi has dismissed criticism from former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi over his remarks on the Accord Party in Osun State, accusing Obi of misinterpreting his comments and attempting to score political points.

The response followed a statement by Obi condemning Fadahunsi over remarks concerning members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.

The Osun State Police Command has since summoned Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, over the alleged threats contained in his remarks.

However, in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Head of Media and Public Enlightenment in Fadahunsi’s office, Omole Olusegun Omo-Osodi, the senator’s media team said Obi had misinterpreted the lawmaker’s comments.

The office explained that Fadahunsi’s remarks, which were made in Yoruba, were aimed at urging voters to defeat the Accord Party at the polls and were not a call for violence against its members.

It, therefore, advised Obi to seek proper interpretation of the senator’s statement before publicly criticising him.

“Obi needs to be schooled on how to interfere in political matters. If you don’t understand Yoruba, you are very free to seek interpretation instead of attacking the innocent and respected lawmaker,” Omole said.

The media office also rejected the suggestion that Fadahunsi wished death or harm on his constituents, stressing that the senator was a peaceful politician.

“Our principal has never and will never wish anyone dead, not to talk of his constituents. Our principal is a peaceful man,” it said.
