Lawal tasks contractors on quality as Oyo reviews RAAMP projects

By Adejayan Gbenga –

Oyo State Acting Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, on Thursday inspected ongoing Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) roadworks and market upgrades across the state, urging contractors to ensure quality delivery and timely completion.

Lawal, who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye; Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Esther Owoeye; and RAAMP Project Coordinator, Engr. (Mrs.) Olufunke Ekundayo, stressed that the initiatives are vital to boosting agricultural activities and rural development.

He explained that the RAAMP projects reflect Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration’s commitment to improving rural infrastructure, enhancing market access for farmers, and driving food security across the state.

The Acting Governor noted that, when completed, the projects would ease the transportation of farm produce, create a more conducive trading environment, and strengthen the state’s economic growth. He assured contractors of government support to deliver the works to standard.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far, pledging that the ministry would continue to monitor implementation to ensure quality and timely delivery.

Residents also applauded the state government’s efforts. A road user, Mr. Abdulrazaq Seriki, from Kunbi Village, said the Olowa–Ijaye Farm Settlement Road had long been a death trap and that the new project would greatly ease farmers’ access to markets.

Among the projects inspected were the 21.95-kilometre Olokoyo–Ikere Dam Road in Iseyin Local Government, the Oja Agbe Market in Iseyin, and the 31.7-kilometre Alako–Idiya–Batake–Olowa–Ijaye Farm Settlement Road.

Lawal reiterated that the government would not compromise on quality, emphasizing that rural roads and market improvements remain central to Oyo State’s agricultural transformation agenda.
