The Oyo State Government has commenced the construction of a 400,000-litre capacity elevated Braithwaite water tank at the Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, as part of its efforts to upgrade the facility and achieve international status.
Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Water Corporation, Hon. Elias Adeojo, disclosed this during a meeting with engineers of the Corporation supervising the project. He said the scheme is designed to address critical infrastructure needs at the airport.
According to Adeojo, the project is being executed in three phases. The first phase, which is ongoing, involves excavation of trenches for pipeline laying and backfilling. The second phase will focus on welding and installing pipelines to key locations across the airport premises.
He added that the third and final phase will see the construction of the elevated Braithwaite tank, which has a storage capacity of 400,000 litres. The tank, he explained, would ensure uninterrupted water supply through a gravity-based distribution system.

The Water Corporation Chairman noted that the phases are structured to run concurrently, a strategy aimed at easing execution and ensuring timely completion. He also stressed that quality standards would be strictly adhered to throughout the process.
Adeojo highlighted that the initiative is of strategic importance to Governor Seyi Makinde, who has consistently provided support for the project. He urged engineers and contractors handling the scheme to commit themselves to delivering excellent results.
Once completed, the project is expected to improve water supply at the airport, providing critical infrastructure for passengers and airport operations. It will also enhance the readiness of the facility for international flight services.
