Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong leaves prison one month after imprisonment

Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has been released from the Uyo Correctional Centre, one month after he was jailed by Chief Justice of Akwa Ibom State, Ekaette Obot for contempt of court.
He was thereafter committed to the Ikot Ekpene Custodial Center of the Nigeria Correctional Service where he served the first two weeks of his one-month term before being transferred back to Uyo, where he served out the remainder of his term.
The lawyer was received by group of supporters who came to welcome him from the one-month incarceration.
Effiong posted a live video on his Facebook page to confirm his release.
He accompanied the video with the caption, “History will vindicate the just.”
“I am back, stronger and more determined to confront the forces of oppression and to continue to speak nothing but the hard truth to the faces of the oppressors of our people. I feel sorry for those who thought they can break my spirit by incarcerating me,” he wrote in another post.
Wide criticism trailed his imprisonment from the Nigeria Bar Association and civil societies, calling the actions of the Akwa Ibom CJ unjust.
He was also reportedly abused when he was transferred to Uyo Correctional Centre, where prison officials scraped his hair and beard.
