LG polls: Group urges Lagos APC to back Christian for Ejigbo chairmanship

An interest group, Concerned Christians for President Tinubu 2027 (CCPT), has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos Chapter to consider a Christian candidate for the chairmanship ticket of the Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (ELCDA) of Lagos State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the group’s president, Richard Cletus, expressed strong objection to the alleged continued concentration of political power—especially the chairmanship of Ejigbo LCDA—in the hands of a single religious and ethnic group to the exclusion of others.
CCPT explained that since the end of the tenure of former chairman Kehinde Bamigbetan, subsequent leadership of the council had been Muslims. It argued that, in the spirit of inclusivity, fairness, justice, and power balancing, the next APC chairmanship candidate for Ejigbo LCDA should be a Christian.
The group added: “Hon. Ibrahim Adigun was appointed as sole administrator, succeeded by the late Barrister Jaiye Alabi, and followed by the current outgoing chairman, Hon. Monsuru Bello (Obe), who was elected and re-elected. All are Muslims.
“While we acknowledge and appreciate the service of these leaders and do not question the integrity of any individual, we are alarmed by the sustained exclusion of Christians and non-indigenes from access to this key leadership position. There are credible, competent, and loyal APC members within the Christian community and non-indigenous groups in Ejigbo LCDA who have been consistently sidelined.
“This is not just a political oversight—it is a structural injustice that weakens party unity and damages communal trust. We, the Concerned Christians for President Tinubu (CCPT), therefore, make the following demands: an immediate end to the exclusionary pattern that favors only Muslim and indigenous aspirants for the chairmanship of Ejigbo LCDA;
“The adoption of an open, inclusive, and merit-based selection process that allows Christian and non-indigenous aspirants a fair chance; the implementation of a zoning or rotational formula that promotes balanced political representation. In this spirit, the next APC chairmanship candidate for Ejigbo LCDA should be a Christian; and prompt, proactive intervention by the state leadership of the APC to redress this entrenched imbalance and restore confidence among all party members. We are not asking for handouts—we are demanding equity.
“Ejigbo LCDA is a strategic contributor to the growth and electoral strength of the APC in Lagos State. Now is the time to open the space for inclusive participation and reflective representation. Let it be noted: this is a principled stand. Should this marginalization continue unaddressed, we may no longer be able to guarantee the active support and engagement of our members in APC affairs within the LCDA.
“We trust that the leadership of our great party will act with fairness, courage, and a sense of history to ensure that justice and unity prevail.”
