LG Polls: Second term not sure if you don’t perform well- Ojelabi tells Lagos APC candidates

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos Chapter, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has said second term is not certain for any unperformed council chairmen in 2029, advising the local government chairmanship candidates to perform if elected into office on July 12 council elections.
Ojelabi made this declaration on Tuesday at the official flag-off ceremony and presentation of candidates held at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja.
The party chairman disclosed that the candidates’ administration would be closely monitored by the party when they get into office, saying that local government administration would not be business as usual.

Ojelabi also cautioned the chairmanship candidates not to maltreat their vice-chairmanship candidates when they get into office, saying that they are not spare-tyres.
” You have been given the ticket to contribute your quota to the development of the State and Nigeria at large. You can see how President Bola Tinubu is performing in the area of infrastructural development, economic stimulation and growth, human resources management, education , health and others. You can see what the governor is doing and has done in terms of development of the state. You must complement their efforts. Failure to complement their efforts when elected into office, you may lose your second term. It is not business as usual at the grassroots. You will be closely monitored and you must be seen performed”, said Ojelabi.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt (Hon) Mudashiru Obasa, urged the aggrieved aspirants to support the chosen candidates, saying that party’s decision is supreme.
Obasa said the aggrieved aspirants should not work against the interest of the party, saying that it might be their turn in 2029.
He said the council elections is a litmus test for the 2027 general elections, saying that the party cannot avoid to be crisis-ridden.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Campaign Committee, Alhaji Babatunde Balogun, said Local Organising Committees (LOCs) have been created in all the 20 local governments (LGs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to manage the campaign affairs at the grassroots .
Balogun urged the incumbent Council Chairmen and their party chairmen to work together in ensuring the candidates emerge victorious at the polls.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Oluyole Olusi, advised them to promote people’s welfare than personal aggrandisement, saying that the office is not met to enrich themselves.
