Madugu unveils 24-woman squad for WAFCON 2025

Super Falcons head coach, Justin Madugu, has named a 24-player squad for the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) taking place from July 5 to 26 in Morocco. The team includes top stars like captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Francisca Ordega.
A large number of the players began training in Abuja on Thursday and will continue until their departure for a final training camp in Lisbon, Portugal, on Sunday. The Falcons will also engage in friendly matches against Portugal and Ghana ahead of the tournament.
Madugu’s squad features a blend of experienced internationals and rising stars. Defenders Ashleigh Plumptre, Michelle Alozie, Osinachi Ohale, and Oluwatosin Demehin make the cut alongside midfielders Jennifer Echegini, Halimatu Ayinde, and Christy Ucheibe.
Among the forwards, Nigeria will rely on the firepower of Oshoala, Ordega, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Ifeoma Onumonu. The squad also includes home-based talents like goalkeeper Rachael Unachukwu and defenders Sikiratu Isah and Miracle Usani.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that the team will play Portugal in Lisbon on June 23 and Ghana in Morocco on June 29 as part of preparations for their Group B clashes against Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.
In his remarks, Madugu stressed the need to build a competitive team ready to challenge for Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title. He praised the players’ commitment and expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to excel.
The Super Falcons will play all their group matches at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. Nigeria remains one of the favourites to lift the continental title once again.
