Maiduguri flood: Tinubu’s sons, Noella Foundation, offer support to victims
Towing the path of many other philanthropists in humanitarian response to the devastating floods in Maiduguri, Seyi and Yinka Tinubu, children of President Bola Tinubu, in collaboration with the Noella Foundation, have mobilized significant relief aid to support flood victims.
The initiative, branded the “ST Noella Relief,” also involved private sector partners and associates, with the goal of delivering vital assistance to displaced persons affected by the disaster.
During their visit to Maiduguri on September 20, 2024, Seyi and Yinka Tinubu met with Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno to discuss the relief efforts.
The initiative follows President Bola Tinubu’s earlier visit to the region, where he urged private sector involvement in the ongoing flood relief operations.
Seyi Tinubu, speaking on behalf of the relief team, emphasized the importance of quick action in times of crisis.
“We are here today, united in the belief that when our people are in need, we respond with action. These contributions are just the beginning, and we will continue to support Maiduguri and Borno State as they recover from this tragedy,” he said.
The relief initiative, which will be sustained in the coming weeks, is part of the Noella Foundation’s broader commitment to providing relief and strengthening communities during crises. Seyi Tinubu further assured that no family would be left behind in the recovery process.
The aid package includes substantial donations of food and essential non-food items. Among the food supplies are 1,000 cartons each of spaghetti, tomato paste, and groundnut oil, along with 200 bags of maize flour and 500 bags of 25kg rice.
To address immediate food needs, the team also donated 10,000 loaves of bread, 200 cartons of Maggi seasoning, 1,000 bags of salt, and 100 cartons of sugar.
Non-food items provided to displaced families include 5,000 mosquito nets to prevent malaria, 1,000 mattresses for comfort, 4,000 blankets for warmth, and 4,000 wash kits and buckets for hygiene. Additional items include 4,000 kettles, 4,000 wrappers, and 10,000 mats to help families maintain basic living conditions.
A robust medical response was also included in the intervention, with donations of medications and supplies aimed at addressing immediate health needs.
Among the medical items were 26,000 packs of antimalarial drugs, 3,500 boxes of analgesics, 3,000 boxes of anti-ulcer medications, and 35,000 packs of antihypertensive drugs. Other medical supplies included antidiabetic and antidiarrheal drugs, antibiotics, and antifungal treatments.
To further strengthen healthcare efforts, 50 medical doctors from the network of friends and associates were mobilized and are now on the ground, supporting the Borno State Ministry of Health.
Governor Zulum expressed his gratitude for the swift response and assured that the resources would be efficiently distributed to those most in need.
