Motunde Sogunle opens up on rejecting sex-for-roles in Nollywood

Motunde Sogunle, widely recognized for her role as Mr Macaroni’s daughter in the hit skit series Daddy Wa, has revealed her experience with sex-for-role propositions from prominent figures in Nollywood.

In a candid interview on Nollywood on Radio, the talented actress, who originally pursued a career in law but later transitioned to theatre arts at Redeemer’s University, shared how she turned down offers from top names in the industry who promised her major roles in exchange for sexual favors.

“Yes, there’s nothing to hide. People have already told these stories a million and one times. It was always like, ‘If you do this for me, I’ll make you big.’ And I’m talking about big names. They’d say, ‘Come warm my bed, and you’ll get this role.’ I could have been bumped up from a minor character to the lead, but I thought, how long will I keep hopping from one person to another?

“Acting was never a do-or-die affair for me. I was bold enough to say, ‘I’m sorry, but I’m not taking this offer.’ So, yeah, I went through that.”
