A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State and influential Ibadan Mogaji, Abass Oloko, has resigned from the party, ending his long-standing membership and triggering fresh political speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oloko announced his resignation in a chat with journalists on Thursday, saying he had officially parted ways with the PDP after years of political involvement in the party.
He also dismissed reports linking him to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), insisting that he had neither joined the party nor subscribed to the reported PDP/APM alliance, which he said was inconsistent with his political ideology.
“I have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party. I have also not joined the APM, as being speculated in some quarters. The PDP/APM alliance does not conform to my political ideology,” Oloko said.
Although he confirmed his exit from the PDP, the influential Ibadan politician declined to disclose his next political destination, stating that he would unveil his future plans after returning from his vacation in the United States.
“I will unveil my next political destination as soon as I return from my vacation in America. For now, I want to appreciate everyone who has stood by me over the years and ask my supporters to remain calm while we conclude our consultations,” he added.
Until his resignation, Oloko was widely regarded as one of the most influential political figures within the PDP in Ibadan and a close ally of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
