Makinde calls for preservation of Yoruba culture at 2025 Isese Day

Governor Seyi Makinde has urged traditional religious leaders and cultural stakeholders in Oyo State to promote indigenous culture and heritage to younger generations and the global community.
Speaking at the 2025 Isese Day grand finale at Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, and represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Development, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, Makinde emphasized that educating the youth about their roots is vital for safeguarding traditions and ensuring their continuity.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s support for traditional leaders and highlighted the 2023 UNESCO recognition of the Sango Festival as a landmark achievement in Yorubaland.
Earlier, the Araba/Olu-Isese of Ibadanland, Ifalere Odegbola, and the Aare Isese of Oyo State, Chief Omikunmi Egbelade, described Isese as a religion rooted in peace, tolerance, and respect. They praised the state government for fostering religious harmony and stressed that unity is essential to preserving traditional heritage.
The event showcased vibrant cultural performances and attracted traditional rulers, government officials, political leaders, and worshippers from across Oyo State.
