Makinde champions fitness, as education sector wins Inter-Sectoral Football Competition

Governor Seyi Makinde has urged civil servants in Oyo State to prioritize physical fitness as part of efforts to enhance their overall well-being and productivity.
The governor made this statement on Tuesday during the final of the 2024 Oyo State Inter-Sectoral Football Competition, held at the Lekan Salami Stadium. He emphasized the vital role of exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, noting that physical fitness not only improves individual health but also boosts workplace performance.
Presenting the trophy to the victorious Education Sector team, Governor Makinde commended the organizers and participants for their dedication to the event. He also highlighted his administration’s significant investments in sporting facilities and activities across the state.
According to the governor, “We want to encourage our civil servants to integrate physical activity into their daily lives. When you exercise regularly and maintain physical fitness, it not only strengthens your heart but also enhances productivity at the workplace.”
He added, “Through initiatives like the Civil Service Games, we aim to create a more vibrant and motivated civil service that will play a crucial role in the development of Oyo State.”
The Education Sector emerged champions of the competition after defeating the Security Sector by a lone goal in the final match. The winning goal was scored by Jimoh Mutairu in the second half. The Education Sector team comprised teachers and officials from the state’s Ministry of Education and other educational institutions.
The event, designed to foster camaraderie and teamwork among various sectors of the state government, attracted senior officials from the Education and Security Sectors.
The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Salihu Adelabu, expressed excitement over the victory. Celebrating alongside the sector’s staff, he described the win as a testament to the team’s dedication and teamwork.
“This victory demonstrates that we are not only focused on the cognitive aspects of education but also on the psychomotor and affective domains,” said Professor Adelabu.
