Tax Reform Bills : Reps members vent anger on House Spokesman over voiced support
Members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday refused a report presentation from the Spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi Jnr, for expressing his support for the controversial tax reform bills.
The House Spokesperson was to present a report on behalf of the Committee on Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring when he mentioned that “the government and people of Ekiti State support President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform bills”.
This submission irked most lawmakers from the north who insisted he drop the report and withdraw his comment.
Even after this was done, the lawmakers insisted the presentation be rescheduled for a later date, a position the spokesperson agreed to.
One of the lawmakers opposed to the legislation, Tijjani Ghali Mustapha who represents Albasu/Gaya/Ajingi federal constituency of Kano State, told his colleagues under personal explanation that Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesperson of the House, has, through the media, misrepresented the position of the green chamber on the tax reform bills calling on the House leadership to caution both Spokespersons.
