Eno congratulates Akwa Ibom-born politician on election victory in Ohio

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has congratulated Mayor Ukeme Awakessien Jeter on her election to represent Ohio’s 7th House District in the Ohio House of Representatives.
Awakessien Jeter, who has roots in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was elected in the November 3, 2026, United States midterm elections.
In a congratulatory message issued by his chief press secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Eno described her victory as a source of pride for Akwa Ibom State, praising her for what he called her excellence, resourcefulness and determination.
The governor recalled that Awakessien Jeter made history in 2021 when she was elected to the Upper Arlington City Council in Ohio. She later became council president and mayor, emerging as the first person of colour to hold the mayoral position in the city’s 103-year history.
Eno expressed confidence that she would bring the same leadership and commitment to her new role as a state representative.
“Just as you made history by becoming the first person of colour to serve as mayor of Upper Arlington, we are confident that you will bring the same exemplary leadership, dedication and distinction to your new role as a state representative,” he said.
The governor described her election as another milestone in her political career, adding that her achievements reflected the potential of people of Akwa Ibom ancestry.
“On behalf of the government and people of Akwa Ibom State, the land of your ancestry, I congratulate you most heartily on this well-deserved victory,” Eno said.
