Makinde earns lawmakers’ praise as Oyo Assembly resumes, endorses ₦300bn loan

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday resumed plenary after a six-week recess, with lawmakers passing a vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde for what they described as his bold developmental initiatives across the state.

During the session, members commended the governor for his achievements in infrastructure, governance reforms, and local government development carried out during the recess.

Hon. Olajide Akintunde (Lagelu Constituency) praised the successful completion of the House’s oversight visits across the 33 local government areas, noting that the exercise provided vital insights into ongoing projects and the performance of local administrations. He also lauded the peaceful conduct of the recently concluded ward congresses of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Similarly, Hon. Olatunde Kehinde (Akinyele Constituency II) highlighted Governor Makinde’s rollout of strategic road projects, emphasizing that a significant portion of the newly approved ₦300 billion facility will be allocated to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of major roads critical to economic growth.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, applauded the launch of the Oyo State Subnational Implementation Strategy for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), describing it as visionary. He moved a motion endorsing the governor’s policies, which was seconded by the Chief Whip, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola.

Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi, added that Governor Makinde’s initiatives in health, education, and infrastructure had positively impacted citizens across the state.

In his closing remarks, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to good governance and transparency. He urged lawmakers to remain diligent, constructive, and responsive to the needs of their constituents while avoiding divisive politics.
