By Adejayan Gbenga –
Oyo State Acting Governor, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Mr. Ojo Peter, an online journalist who was killed by suspected armed robbers in Ibadan.
Lawal, who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade; the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Hon. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola; and leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, described the incident as both tragic and painful.
Speaking during the visit, the Acting Governor expressed the state government’s sympathy to the widow and children of the deceased journalist.
“At this juncture, I pray that the Lord will comfort and strengthen you,” Lawal said. “Ojo Peter was a professional who left us in his prime. He had the potential to achieve much more in life, and we acknowledge the efforts he made in his work while alive.”
He assured the bereaved family of the government’s support and urged members of the NUJ to rally around their late colleague’s family to help them navigate this difficult time.
“Whatever support can be offered will be looked into, and the government will get back to the family,” he added. “I also challenge all journalists to stand by this family during this trying period.”
