Makinde gives criteria for choosing successor

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said his choice of successor is based on competence and not political party affiliation.
Makinde stated this on Wednesday in Ibadan at the International Tourism Summit organised by the state government.
He was responding to criticisms over his engagement with Adekanmbi, a former commissioner for finance during the administration of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
The governor said his focus is on competence and the ability to contribute meaningfully to the development of Oyo State.
“What matters is competence, and provided the candidate is an indigene of the state,” Makinde said.
He added that his role is to present a preferred successor to the people of Oyo State, while the electorate will make the final decision.
“My role is to recommend a preferred successor for the people of Oyo State. It is the electorate that will decide,” he said.
Makinde also said the outcome of the 2027 elections would be determined by the votes of the people and not “federal might”.
He further explained that his administration has put in place policies and infrastructure aimed at strengthening tourism and ensuring continuity of development in the state.
