Makinde prioritises rehabilitation of rescued Oyo pupils, teachers after 56-day ordeal

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said the immediate priority of his administration is to reunite the pupils and teachers rescued from captivity in Oriire Local Government Area with their families and ensure they receive adequate rehabilitation after their 56-day ordeal.
The governor made this known on Friday following the successful rescue of the victims, expressing gratitude for their safe return after spending nearly two months in the custody of their abductors.
Makinde said the state government is committed to helping the rescued pupils and teachers recover from the physical and emotional trauma they endured, while providing the necessary support to enable them reintegrate into their families and communities.
“Our priority now is to ensure they are reunited with their families and support their rehabilitation after this traumatic experience,” the governor said.
He also commended the security agencies involved in the rescue operation, praising their courage, professionalism and unwavering commitment in securing the release of the victims.
The governor paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives during the operation, praying for the repose of their souls and asking God to grant strength and comfort to their bereaved families.
“We also commend the security agencies that took part in the rescue operations for their sacrifices. May the souls of those who paid the ultimate price rest in peace and may God comfort their families,” he added.
The pupils and teachers regained their freedom on Friday after spending 56 days in captivity, bringing relief to their families, residents of Oriire Local Government Area and other stakeholders who had anxiously awaited their safe return.
