Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps posted to the state to promote unity and contribute meaningfully to nation-building during their service year.
Makinde, who was represented by the Director of Youth in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Kuburat Mustapha, made the call at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin.
Welcoming the corps members, the governor described Oyo State as a pace-setter known for its hospitality, rich history, and cultural heritage.
He noted that by taking the oath of allegiance, the corps members had accepted the call to serve the nation with dedication, integrity, and patriotism.
Makinde emphasised that the NYSC scheme remains a vital tool for fostering unity, promoting national integration, and strengthening relationships across ethnic, religious, and cultural divides.
He urged the corps members to view their service year as an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to their host communities, develop leadership skills, and positively impact society.
The governor also encouraged them to participate actively in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme to become self-reliant and economically empowered beyond their service year, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and security.
Earlier, the Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Kayode Ola Peters, commended the state government for its support, while the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Iyabo Yerima, represented by Olusola Adebisi Adejutoye, administered the oath of allegiance to formally usher the corps members into national service.
