Oyedele assumes office, unveils economic reform agenda

Newly appointed Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Oyedele Taiwo has officially assumed office, following a formal handover ceremony from former minister, Wale Edun.
In his first statement on Friday after taking office, the minister expressed appreciation to his predecessor, saying, “I sincerely appreciate him for his service to our country and the foundation he has laid.”
Describing Nigeria as being at a critical economic juncture, he said, “Having taken important steps to stabilise the economy, our immediate task is to consolidate these gains, deepen ongoing reforms, and ensure they translate into tangible benefits for all Nigerians.”
The minister outlined key strategic priorities of his administration, beginning with productivity and growth. He said government would focus on “creating a predictable and investor-friendly environment anchored on policy coherence, consistency, and clarity.”
On fiscal management, he pledged to ensure “transparent and prudent management of public resources” through stronger discipline and sustainability measures.
Addressing taxation and revenue generation, the minister said the administration would pursue reforms aimed at “harmonising revenue administration, broadening the tax base, reducing the burden on vulnerable population, and supporting economic growth.”
He also stressed the need for stronger coordination across government institutions to maximise policy impact.
Speaking on collaboration with stakeholders, the minister said government would deepen partnerships with the private sector through “data-driven policy design, co-implementation, and feedback for continuous improvement.”
