Malami lambasts Kebbi State government on poor performance, seeks ADC governorship ticket

Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has criticised the Kebbi State Government over what he described as poor performance in education, healthcare, security and economic management, while formally declaring his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami said the state government’s response to his declaration focused on “personal attacks and unverified achievements” instead of addressing pressing developmental challenges facing the state.

“On Saturday May 9, the Kebbi State Government issued a 1,500-word statement in response to my formal declaration of intent to contest the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the ADC,” Malami said.

“The statement contained ad hominem attacks, unsubstantiated allegations, and a list of unverified achievements. Notably, it failed to refute any of the figures I cited.”

Malami alleged that Kebbi State continues to record low school attendance, widespread multidimensional poverty, rising malnutrition and insecurity across rural communities.

According to him, “67.6% of children aged 6–15” in the state are out of school, while the “net school attendance rate” remains “just 38%, among the lowest in Nigeria.”

He also claimed that “over 88% of children” in the state live in multidimensional poverty, lacking access to education, clean water, healthcare and nutrition.

On healthcare, Malami alleged that “608 severely malnourished child deaths” were recorded between January and September 2025, while malaria prevalence among children under five remained high.
