A 37-year old man, Yinka Adekunle, has allegedly been tortured to death by men of the Nigeria Army, following an altercation that ensued between them at a beer parlour in Fadahunsi area, Ilesa, Osun State.
It was gathered that the incident started on Friday, 25th March, 2022 when Yinka and two of his friends visited a beer parlour with an ash colour Lexus 350 jeep to drink.
Westernpost learnt that the deceased and his friends met some soldiers who were in mufti at the beer parlour and one of the soldiers warned a friend of Yinka not to sag his trousers and directed him to wear the trouser properly.
The friend allegedly refused to heed the warning and the matter led to an altercation.
One of the soldiers, it was further learnt, called for reinforcement and an Army patrol van from Ibodi Army Barack arrived the scene. Yinka and a friend fled.
“However, they arrested one of them and took him and Yinka’s Lexus 350 to their barrack.
On Saturday, they called Yinka, using his friend’s phone that he should come to their barrack with N50,000 to “bail his car”, a source disclosed.
Speaking on the matter, the 79-year-old father of Yinka, David Adekunle, said: “On Saturday, March 26, Yinka went to the barrack with N50,000 to retrieve his car. He never returned home that day. I went to the Army Barrack and I was told at the gate that my son has been moved to Ayeso Police station. But when I visited the police station they denied knowledge of having my son in their custody.
“Someone told me that he saw two policemen and a solider drove out with someone to Wesley Guild Hospital. When I got to Wesley, I found my son in the hospital morgue. It was confirmed to me that a soldier brought the corpse to them and was rejected but two police officers later joined him before the authority received the corpse from them.
“Yinka is my last child and the only male child. He was killed when his first child clocked two months and two days. The soldier involved has been sending emissaries to me to beg for forgiveness. He promised to take care of the wife and child of the deceased. My demand is simple. Army authorities should hand over those involved in the gruesome murder of my only son. They should face full consequences of their actions. I am 79-year-old Nigerian.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Osun State Command, Yemisi Opalola denied the involvement of policemen in depositing the corpse at the morgue.
She said that the Divisional Police Officer only called the morgue to inform them about Yinka’s corpse.
